Spiritual & Religious Harm
Religion and spirituality can be meaningful sources of connection, identity, community, and purpose. They can also be complicated.
For some people, religious or spiritual experiences have involved shame, fear, control, rejection, judgment, or a loss of trust. Others may be questioning beliefs they once held, navigating a change in faith, leaving a religious community, or trying to understand how past experiences continue to affect their relationships, identity, sexuality, or sense of self.
Religious or spiritual harm can take many forms. Sometimes the experience is obvious and painful. Other times, it can be difficult to identify why something that was once an important part of your life now feels complicated. Not every difficult religious experience is necessarily traumatic, and everyone's experience is different. Therapy isn't about assigning a label to what happened. Instead, it can provide space to understand your experiences and explore how they may be affecting you today.
Therapy can offer a space to explore these experiences without judgment or pressure to arrive at a particular conclusion.
Space Within Counseling provides individual therapy for adults navigating religious and spiritual harm in Greer, Greenville, and the upstate of South Carolina, as well as throughout the state through telehealth.
